Andrea Cingoli for the preparation of the Lux-Lumen exhibit

By concepticon,

Pescheria – Murano – until November 25, 2018 – The Berengo Foundation presents LUX-LUMEN, among the special events of the forty-seventh GAS (Glass Art Society) conference, which will animate Murano for the next 3 days, with a schedule of events filled with meetings and internationally renowned initiatives. The designer Andrea Cingoli was entrusted with the preparation of the exhibit, held inside an area of one of the island’s historic glassmaking factories.
The event traces the history and follows a path from Rezzonico to LED, in an exhibition that introduces the interpretations of chandeliers made by some of the most famous contemporary artists. Among the works on exhibit there’s also a creation by Andrea Cingoli himself, the “LampPoPcorn“, a lamp that is characterized by the descriptive power of blown glass and its natural lightness of being, representating, as the name suggest, popcorn.
“For me – stated Andrea Cingoli – it was a double and compelling satisfaction, for the assignment given to me and certainly stimulating for the preparation that required a simultaneously museographic and landscape design and, even more, for having been one among the artists selected. The settings and the calibre of the works required a particular effort and I can only thank the curator of the review, Adriano Berengo, for the trust granted to me.”
The exhibition brings together the works of 23 contemporary artists and, ideally, continues the activity launched since 1989 by Berengo Studio, that up until today has invited over 300 artists from all over the world and from different branches of knowledge – from sculptors to musicians – to collaborate with its master glassmakers in creating extraordinary glass works of art.

I keep my fingers crossed , hoping to be among the list of winners. Furhermore,  Duc(oo)k, is the finalist project at IDSAIDEA 2017, an annual award by the Industrial Designers Society of America”.

For its creation, plastic material has been used completely recycled, resisting to 220°, which does not damage pots with no-stick coating. It has a silicon base, allowing to held the tool while being used.

Flamp, is a lamp of the designer from Abruzzo, given by a formal experiment in Flexiglass, a material obtained by an innovative process, now patent pending. Qwerty Sofa, design Concepticon studio Andrea Cingoli (category: furniture design)
Reminiscent of the loyal keyboard archetype, the sofa bed Qwerty Sofa is ready to host its guests amongst its “soft” keys at different times of everyday life with a hint of irony. Actually, Qwerty Sofa is much more than a sofa bed: the micro electric motors, controlled by a remote control, are designed to make sure each key/pillow can be adjusted in height to customize the entire surface available according to ones preferences and use. Qwerty Sofa is a playful and unconventional piece of furnishing that can transform itself into a couch or bed at will.

CrickIT, design Concepticon studio Andrea Cingoli (category: mobility)
CrickIT is a real motorized alternative for urban mobility and logistics. It is characterized for its multifunctional versatility thanks to its ability to transform itself from a vehicle to a luggage cart, all through the simple touch of a button. It can easily replace a bike and travel on sidewalks alongside pedestrians, along bicycle paths or in historic centers.
As a vehicle, it is foldable and easy to manage. It can withstand long distances and reach up to 15 km/hr. Once folded, it is rather compact and can fit in the trunk of a car. CrickIT can be used to transport individuals with disabilities or in the medical field. As a luggage, it can hold up to 250 kg. By reversing the handlebars, the transportation platform transforms itself into a container for goods. The device is also equipped with tracking software against theft and to track the goods inside it.

Balamp, design Concepticon studio Andrea Cingoli (category: furniture design)
Balamp is a table lamp (abat-jour) designed to allow you to live in symbiosis with your surroundings, whether in a residential home or business. Its functions depend on the weight of the object placed on top of it. When an object is positioned on the lamp, the plate is pushed downwards and the weight is registered to keep the lamp off. Once removed, the lamp emits a soft light. To achieve a higher intensity of light, one must simply press on the supporting plate and keep it pressed down to activate the dimming function of the LEDs. Balamp has many other functions: it can hold personal objects, but also works as an alarm that projects the time on the surface of a dresser for a few seconds. Furthermore, it’s even a wireless charger you can use to charge your mobile phones by placing them on the upper plate.

Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2016

Balamp, a lamp worth its weight

By concepticon,

The Italian designer Andrea Cingoli wins the International iF Design Award 2016 prize in the lighting product category with Balamp, a smart bedside lamp that works just like a balance.

Roseto degli Abruzzi (TE) Italy, February 29th 2016Andrea Cingoli Italian designer wins the International iF Design Award 2016 prize in the lighting product category with Balamp, a smart occasional table or bedside lamp that works just like a balance: it turns on and off on the based of the weight of the objects placed upon it.
The International prize has been awarded on February 26th during the impressive Award Ceremony inside of the futuristic BMW Museum in Monaco, Germany.

The lighting design object Balamp designed by Concepticon studio Andrea Cingoli designer aims to live in symbiosis with the context around it (it serves as a place to put your personal things and objects) but its form is extremely refined. It does not allow any analog method of setting and in order to set Balamp (clock, alarm, tone and colour tone) you use a cell phone app, which makes it truly one of a kind.

“I am very proud of the iF Design Award – explains the designer Andrea Cingoli – because the Balamp lamp shows very well the essence of my way of designing. I do strong believe that innovation is the only way of dealing effectively with a hugely competitive and purposeful market, and this is the reason why I explore and reinterpret the daily reality giving new meanings, unexpected shapes and functionality to design products”.

The product: Balamp
Design CONCEPTICON studio Andrea Cingoli, Italy; Engineering Partner Giromari S.r.l, Italy

Everyday we observe our habits, our lifestyle, the trends that brings us to consider the natural evolution of how things work, keeping them in the same format, but with more and more functions. This is the case of Balamp, a bedside lamp whose function is based on the weight of the objects placed upon it: by placing objects on Balamp and then pushing down its dish, the weight is registered and the lamp remains off. If you lift one of the objects off of it, like for instance a glass of water, Balamp turns on with a dim light so that you can have illumination without disturbing your partner. If you then put the removed object back, the lamp recognizes the weight and turns itself off. When Balamp turns on, the incorporated alarm clock displays the time for a few seconds by projecting it onto the beside dresser.
To turn on Balamp with a higher intensity, all you have to do is push the top plate and keep it pressed to turn off the LED dimmer function.
The top plate is also a wireless battery charger that allows cell phones to be charged just by putting them on it.
Materials: dark brushed steel, polycarbonate, polished polymer for inductive charging, electrical equipment, dimmable LED strip, scratch-proof film; sizes 30Lx30Wx 5H (cm).

The creations and the thoughts of Andrea Cingoli at Chicago’s SOFA

By concepticon,

SOFA, acronym of Sculpture Object Functional Art and design is one of the most important fairs/shows of contemporary art and design in the world. It has been held every year since 1994 in Chicago, USA. What sets it apart from the other great events of the field is the specific attention to tridimentional objects that are among the best in decorative art, design and pure art. It is known for the excellence of its galleries that show and sell artefacts of exceptional beauty and refined and personalized design.
It is held, every year, in autumn, on the famous Navy Pier and has an average of 80 exhibitors of excellence and 35.000 visitors from all over the world. The sales, for each fair, add up to 15/20 million dollars approximately. With a strong educational accent, the SOFA includes a series of conferences and shows that help understand the objects being shown/sold and explores the new tendencies of the art and contemporary design world. SOFA has evolved from international sales event to dynamic community: a encounter of new prospects where art, design and people meet.

This year’s edition ended on the last November 8th.

The conferences and demonstrations, for a total of 110 events, in 3 days, were divided into 3 areas and a specific space dedicated to performances. The conferences, in particular, are considered of high prestige because they are the vehicle of new ideas in the various fields.

Andrea Cingoli was the only conference attendee to be called from Italy (presented by Berengo Studio, his candidacy was evaluated by the Scientific Director of SOFA who, on the basis of the curriculum presented, selects the designers to invite).
The Abruzzese architect and designer spoke of his professional experience, through some of his projects that were created to try and underline the creative process, which is always strongly influenced by experience and experimentation.
For Andrea Cingoli, design, more than art, is not only the expression of the world inside the maker, but also of the universe outside him. The aim of this lecture is to suggest new ways of shaping products using signifier and more sustainable concepts and materials.
During his speech, 45 minutes in duration, he received 15 questions from the audience.

Abit(u)are Contemporaneo

By concepticon,

On display in Montalcino the prototypes of architect and designer Andrea Cingoli

 25 Settembre – 1 Novembre 2015 – OCRA Officina Creativa dell’Abitare

Officina Creative dell’Abitare, in the cloister of the Museco Civico e Diocesano of Montalcino has hosted the exhibit Abit(u)are Comtemporaneo of Andrea Cingoli, which presents the prototypes designed by the architect and designer from Abruzzo. The show, which opened on the 25th of September, closed on November 1st 2015.

Contemporary living has influenced us in a number of variables that affect our life style and force us to adapt, not only in action, but also includes the instruments used during our daily lives.

The spaces of our homes are contracting and the time for our actions is always compressed to such a point that it seems necessary to redefine the terminology of our actions: neologisms such as playparties (partying and playing), tasterelaxing (tasting and relaxing) eatdressing (eating and dressing) cleaneating (cleaning and eating), teartasting (tearing and tasting), tidyassembling (tidying and assembling), playssembling (playing and assembling), takebreaking (taking and breaking).

The objects and the images of the show describe the design experience of Andrea Cingoli and they tell us about a new way to interpret the reality that arrives from a more fluid and significant contemporary design. At the opening night, in the OCRA  projection room, Andrea Cingoli illustrated the “genesis” of his prototypes. Particularly interested, the audience carefully listened to the presentation of the various projects, that as described by the young and promising designer, are inspired by contemporary social needs.

“The designer has to transform the objects”, Andrea Cingoli described, “in a way that they can be able to support a living style that is in constant mutation in their relation with time and space.”

Andrea Cingoli is an Abruzzese architect and designer. Since 2000 he is the technical director of Cingoli Consolidamento e Restauro. In 2007 he co-founded Zo_Loft Architecture & Design and in 2013 Sudio [OPS!] Cingoli/Manigrasso. In the last five years he has won different competitions and awards, both national and international, of Architecture and Design. Among these are the IDA AWARD, the Atlanta International Design Awards, MACEF Design Award, PREMIO IQU. In 2010 he was admitted, as Italian Talent awarded in the world, into the Young Blood 09 and in 2014 he founded CONCEPTICON, a company that engages in concept design oriented towards creative and innovative business models.
